LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Iowa State swimming and diving team will look to finish strong on day two of its dual meet with the University of Kansas after falling behind, 116-34, on Friday night in Lawrence.
To start off the meet, the Cyclones' 200 medley relay consisting of Dani Harris, Jeli Nixt, Sarah Norris and Kalyn Amundsen came in second with a finishing time of 1:48.32.
Norris also earned the Cyclones points with her third place finish in the 50 backstroke, touching the wall with a time of 27.49.
In the 50 breast, Jeli Nixt finished a close third with a time of 30.31, just missing a second place finish.
“We had a couple of races that we preformed very well in,” head coach Duane Sorenson said. “Jeli Nixt just got touched out, and she finished with a very good time.”
Dani Harris finished a close second with a time of 59.81 in the 100 IM.
“We need to be more aggressive tomorrow,” Sorenson said. “We won't have a four and a half hour bus ride so that will help us and we will be more rested.”
In the diving well, the Iowa State diving team competed in 3-meter, finishing the evening with Jenn Botsch finishing third with 249.23 points and Sarah Nelson finishing close behind in fourth with 245.18. Abby Christensen placed sixth for the Cyclones with a score of 241.88.
“We need to compete the way we practice and stay excited, but not so much,” diving coach Jeff Warrick said. “I was happy with some things, but not as happy with the final scores.”
The meet will pick up tomorrow at 10 a.m. CST with diving prelims beginning at 8:45 a.m. CST and finals during the regular meet time.
