LAWRENCE, Kan.- The Cyclones fell to Big 12 rival Kansas Saturday, 195- 99, after falling behind 116-34 on Friday night.
The Cyclones started out the day with
Kalyn Amundsen finishing third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.01.
“I think we raced much smarter and with much more competition today,” head coach
Duane Sorenson said.
Dani Harris finished the two day meet with two-second place finishes. First in the 150 backstroke, with a time of 1:31.97 and later in the 300 IM, touching the wall with a time of 3:24.26
“She swam very smart, and her 150 back splits, she paced very well,” Sorenson said. “In her 300 IM, she was fighting a breathing issue but still finished strong.”
Sarah Norris also came out with a second place finish in the meet. In the 50 butterfly, Norris touched with a time of 26.51.
“
Sarah Norris swam a great 50 fly, she had some great dolphin kicks,” Sorenson stated.
The Cyclones finished strong in the 400 freestyle, finishing second, third and fourth.
Jenny Vondenkamp, clocked in at 4:01.14,
Meredith Doran finished with a time of 4:08.11 in third and close behind was
Alex Gustafson in fourth place with a time of 4:08.34.
Iowa State ended the meet with a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay consisting of
Jeli Nixt, Norris,
Katie Vollhaber and Amundsen.
The Iowa State divers took second, third and fourth in the 1-meter diving.
“I know that the women gave a good effort today. We didn't achieve a first but tried,” diving coach
Jeff Warrick said.
Leading the Cyclones was
Sarah Nelson with 246.23, followed by
Abby Christensen with a close score of 242.93 and
Justine Anders took fourth with 227.02 points.
“I was glad that we had strong second, third and fourth place finishes but I felt as if we had potential for a first place finish,” Warrick said. “I am not overly concerned though, I have seen how they dive in practice and have dove in the past.”
The Cyclones will next head to Austin, Texas to compete in the Big 12 conference championships. The meet will begin Wednesday, Feb. 23.
