AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Cyclones (0-3, 0-0 Big 12) hit the road this week for a pair of dual meets in South Dakota. The Cyclones will take on South Dakota State on Thursday, October 24 at 5 p.m. in Brookings before heading to Vermillion to face South Dakota on Friday, October 25 at 3 p.m.
THE OPPONENTS – South Dakota State, South Dakota
Iowa State will start their road trip against South Dakota State, who enters the meet with an overall season record of 2-2. The Jackrabbits finished fifth at the 24-25 Summit League Swimming & Diving Championships and return several swimmers from that lineup.
The Cyclones will then travel to Vermillion to meet the South Dakota Coyotes, who were the Summit League Swimming & Diving Championships runner-up. South Dakota comes into this contest also holding an overall season record of 2-2.
LAST TIME OUT – Illinois
Iowa State showed growth and depth in its home dual against Illinois. The Cyclones saw multiple top-three finishes across events, highlighted by strong performances in all categories.
Grace Swoboda posted a strong time to earn a second-place finish in the 100 free (52.31) and Kendall Mallers won the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.24 to lead the way for the Cyclones. Sophomore Anja Peck added depth in the event, earning two top-five finishes (100 breast and 400 IM). In the distance events, Carlotta Gazzola continued her strong season start with a top three finish in both the 500 and 1000 free.
The Cyclone divers also showed strength on the boards, as Kate Mitchell, Grace Marek, Maggie Bendell and Abby Tollefson swept the top four spots in the platform diving event.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR – Butterfly, Distance Freestyle, and Diving
The Cyclones will look to carry their momentum from the first two meets of the season into these back-to-back road duals. Iowa State's depth in the butterfly, distance freestyle, and diving events has been a key strength so far, and the team's emerging freshman class continues to make an impact across multiple events.
ON DECK – Hawkeye Invitational
Following their two-day road trip, the Cyclones will prepare to head to Iowa City for the Hawkeye Invitational, which will be held from November 18th-November 21st, where they'll face a number of big name opponents.
