Ronayne Adds Townsend To 2013 Cyclones

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State head gymnastics coach Jay Ronayne announced the addition of Lake Zurich, Ill., native Sara Townsend to the 2013 Cyclones Thursday. Townsend joins Anna Glasenapp, Erin Lewallen, Sammie Pearsall and Kristen DeCosta to make up the incoming class to Iowa State.

Townsend has trained at Legacy Elite Gymnastics the last 12 years under the tutelage of coach Jiani Wu. Townsend is a three-time (2008, 2009, 2011) Junior Olympic National Championships qualifier. In 2011, Townsend placed third on floor, fifth on bars and sixth in the all-around at the Region 5 Championships. She also placed third in the all-around at this year's Illinois State Meet. Townsend has been on the honor all four years of high school, and she has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average.

"Sara is a tall and elegant gymnast," Ronayne said. "Her stature and poise make her gymnastics very beautiful to watch. She is also a very good competitor who is very consistent, which is something that we feel is very important for our team. She had plenty of opportunities to go elsewhere, and I am elated that she chose to be a Cyclone"
