AMES, Iowa – The 2014 Iowa State gymnastics schedule features five home dates, including three home duals to open the season. The Cyclones will have four duals with teams that finished in the top-10 in 2013.
“It's an extremely challenging schedule,” head coach Jay Ronayne said. “I think that's very good for our team. We want to meet some of the best teams in the country, because we want our team to be one of the best in the country. That's how you get there. I think we can continue to build on what we've been building for the past decade.”
Iowa State will begin the season on Sunday, Jan. 5 at home in a dual meet with Penn State. On Jan. 10, the Cyclones will host a three-team dual meet for the first time since 2010, when Michigan and Illinois State come to Hilton Coliseum.
“I think Hilton Coliseum is one of the top-three venues for college gymnastics in the country,” Ronayne said. “We are very fortunate to have great fans, who always show up. They are loud and they give a great Cyclone reception to every team that shows up.”
The Cyclones will then hit the road for their next two duals, starting in Norman, Okla. with the 2013 national runner-up Oklahoma Sooners on Jan. 17. A week later, the Cyclones will travel to Corvallis, Ore. for a dual with Oregon State.
The home slate also features duals with Big 12 foe West Virginia on Feb. 7, and a Feb. 21 visit from a Minnesota squad coming off a top-10 finish. The Cyclones will then make return trip to face the Golden Gophers in Minneapolis on March 1.
The final home dual of the season will be with Iowa in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series on March 7. The Big 12 Championships will held in Morgantown, W.Va. for the first time on March 22.
