LINCOLN, Neb. - The Iowa State gymnastics team (3-6 overall, 0-2 Big 12) produced its second-highest team score this season but could not overcome No. 9 Nebraska's best performance of the campaign Friday at the Devaney Center. The Huskers (6-1) edged the Cyclones by a score of 197.050-194.850 at the competition.
Nebraska's Emily Wong stole the show at the meet with four event titles. Nebraska's Janelle Giblin (9.875) took top honors on vault. Wong's 9.925 won the bars crown. Wong and Nebraska's Jennifer Lauer earned first place on beam with 9.900 efforts. Wong won floor with a score of 9.925. Wong also won the all-around with a 39.600 mark.
Iowa State's Alex Marasco returned to her home state, and the Omaha, Neb., native had a strong showing. Marasco posted a career-high score on vault (9.750) and was solid on beam with a 9.700 effort.
In addition to Marasco on vault, Iowa State had some career efforts at the meet. Junior Henrietta Green tied her career-high score on floor with a 9.850 effort. Green has scored 9.850 on floor at three-straight meets. Freshman Sammie Pearsall's 9.750 on beam tied her career high and she also matched her best mark on floor (9.725).
The Cyclones' Megan McDonald equaled her season-best score on vault (9.725) as did Caitlin Brown (9.700) on the apparatus. Green posted a new season-high score on beam (9.750) in the leadoff position.
The Cyclones have a quick turnaround for their next meet. Iowa State plays host to No. 12 Minnesota Sunday at 2 p.m. CT at Hilton Coliseum. The meet will also serve as Senior Day to honor the careers of Elizabeth Stranahan and Jessica Rizzi.
