BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Cyclones (12-14, 0-0 Big 12) will play four games March 22-23 at the FAU Parents' Tournament hosted by Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla. Iowa State is wrapping up a 10-day, 10-game trip through the state of Florida.
During the two day tournament, the Cyclones will play two teams, Dartmouth and Elon, for the first time. Iowa State and FAU have played five games in previous years and Iowa State won the only other meeting with Bethune-Cookman.
The Cyclones are coming off a 10-inning loss on Tuesday at Florida Gulf Coast in which Iowa State rallied to tie the game in the seventh inning, sending the contest into extra frames. The Eagles finally broke through for the win with a home run in the 10th.
Erica Miller and Jorden Spendlove each hit home runs in the loss; Spendlove's three run shot came with two outs in the third inning and, at the end of the night, Iowa State had 51 two-out RBI on the season.
The sophomore Spendlove is putting together a strong second season at Iowa State, hitting .325 with 22 RBI but has made her run quietly, as foes focus on the power hitting duo of Miller and Tori Torrescano. Spendlove is second on the team with 10 two-out RBI and has driving in multiple runs in a game seven times this season.
Dartmouth is the only opponent for the weekend that has a winning record this season, going 8-5 in its first 13 games. Elon is 10-11 overall and counts a win at No. 8 Georgia as its best win of the season. Bethune-Cookman is 4-24 this season, losing 12 of its last 13 games and the hosting Owls are 16-18, owing their wins to small ball success rather than power hitting as the team has hit a combined nine home runs this season.
Iowa State gets the weekend started Friday morning at 9 a.m. CST against Dartmouth before facing Bethune-Cookman at 11:15 a.m.
