AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State gymnastics program announced its 2015 schedule on Wednesday. The Cyclones will take part in five home meets as ISU head coach Jay Ronayne has put together another challenging slate for his Cyclones to take on.
The season opens up on January 10 at Minnesota at 6:30 p.m. inside the Sports Pavilion. For the second consecutive season, the Cyclones and Golden Gophers will meet each other twice as Minnesota will visit Hilton Coliseum on Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Iowa State's first home meet will be a tri-meet featuring Oregon State and Southeast Missouri State at 2 p.m. on Jan. 18. The tri-meet will be part of Iowa State's Beauty and the Beast event, a simultaneous wrestling and gymnastics meet. The ISU wrestling team will take on Virginia Tech during the event.
Iowa State then travels to a tri-meet as part of its first Big 12 meet of the season on Jan. 25 as ISU travels to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers. George Washington will also partake in the meet.
The Cyclones will then head to one of the most high-profile meets of the season as Iowa State has been invited to take part in the Metroplex Challenge at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 31. The meet will feature defending co-national champion and Big 12 foe Oklahoma, the 2014 NCAA third-place finisher LSU and Arkansas, who finished third at its Regional last season, just like Iowa State.
ISU returns home for a pair of meets on the first weekend of February as ISU will start out on Friday, Feb. 6 against Oklahoma at 6:30 p.m. and then the Cyclones will take on Centenary at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8.
Iowa State then finds itself at another one of the nation's largest meets as the Cyclones will take part in the 2015 IGI Chicago Style Meet at the Navy Pier Festival Hall in Chicago on Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. ISU will take on Northern Illinois, Yale and another opponent to be determined.
After the Minnesota home meet, Iowa State makes a pair of Big Ten road trips, starting at Penn State on Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. Iowa State then returns to the home state, but will head to Eastern Iowa to take on Iowa on March 6 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Cyclones close out the regular season home schedule on March 13 when they take on Temple at 6:30 p.m.
The 2015 Big 12 Championships will be on March 21, and are hosted this year by Oklahoma. The NCAA Regionals take place on Apr. 4, and Iowa State is one of six hosts this season. If Iowa State reaches the NCAA Regional round, they will compete at Hilton Coliseum during the regionals.
The NCAA Championships are Apr. 17-19 and will take place at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
