FORT WORTH, Texas - Iowa State took on some of the top gymnastics teams in the country Saturday at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas. They faced three schools ranked in the top-10: No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 LSU, and No. 8 Arkansas. Iowa State placed fourth at the meet with a team score of 193.400. Oklahoma took first with 197.700, LSU second with 197.425, and Arkansas third with 196.250.
Uneven Bars
Briana Ledesma and Caitlin Brown were the highest scorers for Iowa State on bars. They both earned scores of 9.825, which is Ledesma's highest score on the event this season. Courtney Middelkoop competed for the first time in her ISU career, receiving a score of 9.725. Sara Townsend also competed for the first time this season after and ACL injury and earned a 9.750. The team earned a total score of 48.900 on the event.
Floor Exercise
The Cyclones competed on floor in the first rotation, earning a team score of 48.525. Haylee Young received the highest score on the event with a 9.800. She was followed by Caitlin Brown who brought in a 9.750 for ISU.
Vault
Haylee Young led the team on vault, earning a 9.800 from the judges. Briana Ledesma received the next highest score with a 9.700. The team earned an overall vault score of 48.500.
Balance Beam
With several falls from Cyclone gymnasts, beam was certainly not the best event of the night. With an overall team score of 47.750, Caitlin Brown and Alex Marasco held the team together with scores of 9.875 and 9.775, respectively.
Coming Up
The Cyclones will compete at two home meets this coming weekend. Iowa State will take on Oklahoma again on Friday at 6:30 p.m. They will then face Centenary at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
