Greetings From Cancun: Meredith Burkhall

The women's basketball team jetted off to Cancun, Mexico to take part in a three-game tournament. Each day we will have a different student-athlete blog about their experiences in Cancun to keep you up to date. Enjoy!

Hey Cyclone Nation! Wednesday was a great day in Cancun. The day started off with team breakfast and practice. When that finished, everyone took a nap before we all headed out into the resort at 11. Some of our parents arrived Wednesday as well.

Around 2 p.m. we had a team meeting. We watched film to prepare for our games in Cancun. After film we had some free time to do whatever you liked. Around 4 p.m., there was a foam pool where they filled the pool with soap. Over the course of one hour, the foam covered the entire pool. Being a windy day in Cancun, the foam was blowing across the resort!

That evening, was our "formal" night. We gathered around the beach and look pictures. From there we walked about to the main lobby where we had a banquet. The banquet included the other 11 teams and their parents, fans, and supporters. It was our Thanksgiving Dinner! Thanksgiving dinner in Mexico consisted of a lot of rice, pasta, and different types of meat.

During the event, Mayan Mexican dances performed on stage. The Mayan dancers wore big head pieces and paraded around the tables entertaining us. The night concluded by everyone attending the men's championship game in Cancun. It was Maryland vs. Rhode Island. The team sat together with our families and watched the game. It was an early night for the team because Thursday morning is our first game!
