AMES, Iowa- Iowa State gymnast Caitlin Brown received the honor of being named the 2015 Big 12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award was announced Thursday afternoon, and the recipient was determined by the conference coaches.
A three-time Academic All-Big 12 first team honoree, Brown has been successful both in the gym and the classroom this year. A senior in marketing, she was selected to represent the gymnastics team as a part of the Farm Strong Squad at the Scholar-Athlete Banquet earlier this week. She was chosen for this honor because of her hard work and dedication to both academics and Cyclone gymnastics. The Apple Valley, Minnesota native has also earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for every semester she's been at Iowa State.
In the gym, Brown has been the Cyclones' strongest competitor this season. She was named an All-American on balance beam after tying the school record on the event twice this season. Brown was also selected for the All-Big 12 Team on balance beam and in the all-around, her second time receiving this honor. At the Big 12 Championships, Brown claimed the Big 12 title on the uneven bars, recording a 9.900 to share the conference title, her first as a Cyclone.
On Friday, the senior will be competing at the NCAA Championships as an individual in the all-around for the second time in her Iowa State career.
