FORT WORTH, Texas - Iowa State's lone senior, Caitlin Brown, competed in her final meet as a Cyclone at the 2015 NCAA Gymnastics Championships on Friday. The championship was held at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas, and Brown finished the meet with a 39.175 all-around score.
In her second-straight NCAA Gymnastics Championships, Brown rose to the occasion on her best even, the balance beam. The Iowa State record holder on beam earned a 9.875 during Friday's competition, earning second team All-America honors. The honor means that Brown completed a regular season-postseason All-America sweep on the beam, she was also named a second team All-American during the regular season. She had tied the school record of 9.950 twice this season, and was an All-Big 12 recipient on the event.
Brown is the third Iowa State gymnast to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Gymnastics Championship twice in her career. The Apple Valley, Minn. Native rotated with Michigan and brought in her next highest score of the day with a 9.800 on floor. She recorded 9.750 on both vault and bars to help her reach the all-around score of 39.175.
Brown's performance at the NCAA Championships finished an exceptional senior season. On top of her record breaking beam scores and All-America honor, Brown has just been name the Big 12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was selected for the All-Big 12 team on balance beam and in the all-around, and was a Big 12 co-champion on the uneven bars this season.
