AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State gymnastics program announced its 2016 schedule on Wednesday. The Cyclones will take part in five home meets as ISU head coach Jay Ronayne has put together another challenging slate for his Cyclones to take on.
ISU kicks off the season with three-straight raod meets, with the season starting at Minnesota for the second-striaght season. The Cyclones and Golden Gophers will begin 2016 in the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis at 6:30 p.m.
A new event for the Cyclones comes on Saturday, Jan. 16, when ISU travels to Knoxville, Tennessee for the Ozone Collegiate Gymnastics Classic, a quadrangular at the Knoxville Convention Center that will also feature Air Force, Pittsburgh and Southeast Missouri. The next week, ISU will open the Big 12 campaign with a tri-meet against defending Big 12 champs Oklahoma and Arizona State on January 22.
Friday, Jan. 29 will see ISU open its 2016 home schedule with a tri-meet against Lindenwood and North Carolina State, slated to start at 6:30 p.m. A week later, on Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m., the Cyclones will welcome Big 12 foes West Virginia to Hilton Coliseum.
ISU is back on the road on Saturday, Feb. 13 when the Cyclones meet Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Cyclones then come home to a double-home meet weekend. Friday, Feb. 19 sees Minnesota make its return trip to Hilton Coliseum for a 6:30 p.m. tri-meet that also features Air Force. The Cyclones then host a quadrangular on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. that will feature Nebraska, North Carolina and Wisconsin-La Crosse. Five days later, on Friday, Feb. 26, Iowa State travels to Champaign, Ill. for a meet against Illinois at Huff Hall.
The Cyclones return home on Friday, Mar. 4 at 6:30 p.m. for the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meeting with Iowa. The meet will also serve as Senior Night for the Cyclones' quartet of seniors in Kristen DeCosta, Alex Marasco, Sammie Pearsall and Sara Townsend. Iowa State closes out the regular season on Friday, Mar. 11 with a meet at Kentucky.
The 2016 Big 12 Championships will be on March 19, and for just the second time, will be hosted at a neutral site at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas. The NCAA Regionals will be on Saturday, Apr. 2. The host sites this season are Ann Arobor, Michigan, Gainesville, Florida, Iowa City, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Utah and Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The NCAA Championships are Apr. 15-17, and for the second-straight year will take place at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
