Turning Point of the Game
Iowa State came out quick and on a mission. In just the fifth minute, senior Koree Willer got to the end line and sent a cross to the middle of the 18 where Hannah Cade was streaking. Cade collected the ball and buried it into the left side of the net past the Longhorn keeper, Paige Brown, to give the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead.
The game went back-and-forth the majority of the game until sophomore Klasey Medelberg got past the Longhorn defense and to the end line. Medelberg centered it to a wide open Taylor Wagner and the sophomore midfielder sent it cleanly to the back of the net. The Cyclones took a 2-0 lead and never looked back.

The seniors. On senior night, the Cyclone seniors came out and set the tone early and carried it through the remainder of the game. The seniors tallied seven shots tonight, with four of those coming off the head of Lauren Roeling. Tonight's win puts Iowa State in great shape to make the Big 12 Championship. The seniors made it their when they were freshmen and haven't been back, so they knew what they had to step up and play for tonight. Â
Coach Said It
"I thought we got off to a great start and showed a lot of energy," head coach Tony Minatta said. "Koree had that great end line run and found Cade for that goal. They had a sense of urgency and were coming at us a lot in that first half, but we defended a lot and struggled to put things together, but we collected ourselves and battled through. Klasey was just fantastic getting the end line and setting up Wagner for the second goal."Â
"The hallmark of our team has been defense all year. We broke the season shutout record tonight with our eighth shutout. Getting that just shows the depth of the team and the grit that they have. It was a great team effort and everyone stepped up when they needed to. I'm just excited moving forward. We put ourselves in a very good position and we're ready to take on the next challenge."
