Iowa State had the weekend off after picking up a pair of big victories at TCU, and against Kansas State to put the journey to an 11th-straight NCAA Volleyball Championship back on track. The Cyclones do have to keep their focus against a West Virginia team that nearly pipped ISU in Morgantown back on Sept. 30. WVU was ahead 2-1 before Iowa State forced a fifth set. However, the Mountaineers were in control of the fifth set and had triple-match point at 14-11. The Cyclone block stepped up to get out of the hole before Jess Schaben pounded back-to-back kills to allow Iowa State to escape with a five-set victory.
One of the Cyclones to watch is Grace Lazard, who has found a vein of offensive form to go with her strong defense. In the last three matches, the British middle is averaging 2.50 kills per set at a .353 hitting percentage along with 1.25 blocks per set.
West Virginia just picked up a five-set win over Texas Tech in Morgantown on Saturday, snapping a six-match Big 12 losing skid. WVU is still led by dynamic freshman Payton Caffrey, who recorded 23 kills, 12 digs and four blocks in the win over the Red Raiders. WVU has a strong block led by junior middle blocker Mia Swanegan, who had nine blocks in the win over TTU.
