AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's basketball team (12-10, 4-7 Big 12) fell at home to No. 6 Texas (21-1, 10-1 Big 12), 65-49 on Saturday afternoon. Jadda Buckley led the way offensively with 19 points, followed by Seanna Johnson, who had 16 point and eight rebounds.
How it Happened
Baskets were few and far between for Iowa State in the first quarter, as the Cyclones were 3-of-15 from the field, including 1-of-7 from beyond the arc. Johnson hit a layup with five minutes remaining in the period to cut the UT lead to 8-7, however those were the final ISU points of the stanza. Iowa State stayed in the game on the defensive end, holding the Longhorns to 35 percent shooting, and no three-point baskets.
The Cyclone offensive drought continued into the second period, but Iowa State eventually ended stint of over 10 minutes in which they managed just two points. It was ended emphatically when Emily Durr knocked in a triple from the left wing to cut the Texas lead to 14-12 with 4:41 remaining in the half.
Freshman Bridget Carleton later scored four-straight for the Cyclones to knot things back up at 16-16. The score was 20-20 at halftime, with Buckley leading the way with nine points. Iowa State was just 6-of-29 from the field, but made all six of its free throw attempts and locked down on defense, forcing 10 UT turnovers.
Seanna Johnson went to work in the third quarter. After scoring four in the first half, the junior guard scored nine of Iowa State's first 13 in the period. Johnson's final bucket during the spurt was a three-pointer to put Iowa State ahead 33-29 with 3:34 to play in the third. The Longhorns put together an 8-2 run late in the quarter, and led 43-39 after 30 minutes of action.
The Cyclones were outscored 22-10 in the final stanza, with UT's Ariel Atkins leading the way for the Longhorns. Atkins put up game-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds in her outing.

Jadda Buckley. The junior had a team-high 19 points on 12 attempts from the field, as well as three rebounds and a steal in 35 minutes of action.
