Seven Gymnasts Named to Academic All-Big 12

AMES, Iowa- The Big 12 announced the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team on Friday afternoon. Seven Iowa State gymnasts were honored, including five Cyclones on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Seniors Kristen DeCosta and Sammie Pearsall were the only two Big 12 Gymnasts to be nominated with a 4.0 GPA out of 26 total student-athletes.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 Gymnastics First Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 or higher cumulative GPA or in the last two semesters, and must have participated in at least 60 percent of the team's competitions. Cyclones selected for the Academic All-Big 12 First Team include Kristen DeCosta, a senior in Public Relations; Hilary Green, a sophomore in Pre-Diet and Exercise; Alex Marasco, a senior in Communication Studies; Kelsey Paz, a sophomore in Accounting; and Sammie Pearsall, a senior in Marketing.
To qualify for the Second Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00-3.19 cumulative GPA or in the last two consecutive semesters, and must have competed in at least 60 percent of the team's contests. Iowa State gymnasts chosen for the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team include Courtney Middelkoop, a sophomore in Industrial Engineering and Sara Townsend, a senior in Chemical Engineering.
