STILLWATER, Okla. - The Iowa State softball team (15-22, 0-6 Big 12) dropped the final game of its home series with Oklahoma State (20-17, 3-4 Big 12) by a score of 10-2 on Sunday. Sophomore Kelsey McFarland provided the highlight of the day on a solo home run to left center, as well as a spectacular defensive play in center field.

The Cowgirls got on the board first in the game's opening inning, started by a lead-off walk for Vanessa Shippy. The OSU speedster then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Tiffany Mikkelson recorded a sac fly to score the runner from third, as OSU took a 1-0 lead. The Cowgirls added another run in the second inning on an RBI single from Maddi Holcomb.
Iowa State cut the deficit in half in the top of the third inning. Kaila Konz got the rally started, reaching on a fielder's choice. The sophomore right fielder then stole second and advanced to third on an ISU groundout. With Cappaert at the plate, Konz raced home on an OSU passed ball, making it a 2-1 Cowgirl lead.
OSU answered back in the home half of the inning. The Cowgirl run came home on a sac fly that scored despite a phenomenal defensive play from center fielder Kelsey McFarland up against the wall and snag the ball to prevent what would have been an extra-base hit. The play extended Oklahoma State's lead back to 3-1.
The Cowgirls had a big fourth inning, scoring six runs in the frame behind a pair of home runs. Taylor Lynch hit a three-run homer to give OSU a 7-1 cushion, after which Cyclone starter Kristine Kimberley was replaced by Mandi Moore. Kimberley went 3.2 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits in the second start of her career. Darcy Taylor later hit another home run to extend the OSU lead to 9-1.
Kelsey McFarland provided yet another bright spot on the day for the Cyclones in the top of the fifth inning. The sophomore launched a lead-off solo home run to left center on the first pitch of the frame. It was McFarland's fifth home run of the season, the second-best mark on the team. OSU would walk in a run in the bottom half of the inning to end the game, 10-2.

Iowa State will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13 for another road game, as the Cyclones travel to Omaha, Neb. to face Creighton at 4 p.m. CT.
