TORONTO – Iowa State freshman guard Bridget Carleton was selected to compete with the Canadian Senior Women's National Team in exhibition tournaments in Spain and France in June. Carleton was one of 12 of the 24 invitees from the Phase I tryouts selected to continue on with Canada Basketball. Â
"All of us associated with Iowa State women's basketball are so proud of Bridget," head coach Bill Fennelly said. "This is a great honor for her and her family and an exciting moment in her basketball career. Bridget has always wanted to represent Canada basketball at the highest level and this is a major step towards achieving her dreams."
The final phase of training will begin on July 22 where the team will participate in an exhibition tournament in the United States before competing in Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic Games from August 5-22.
"I'm really excited for the opportunity to travel and play for the Senior Team in Europe," Carleton said. "It'll be a great learning experience for me, being able to watch and learn from some of the best players in the world. This is the level of basketball I've always dreamed of playing and I'm looking forward to the opportunity."
Carleton had a breakout debut season for the Cyclones where she started in 25 games averaging 12.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
