The Cyclones have had a challenging start to Big 12 play, falling to No. 23 Kansas State in four sets in Manhattan and dropping a tough five-setter to TCU in Ames on Sunday. Christy Johnson-Lynch was pleased with her team's offensive effort against the Frogs, as ISU hit .250 led by 16 Morgan Kuhrt kills. However, the defense struggled, allowing TCu to hit .281 and only posting 4.0 total blocks for the match.
ISU will need to be at full focus against a quickly improving West Virginia squad. A year after going 5-24 overall and 0-16 in the Big 12, the Mountaineers are one of the surprises of the early season, heading into Friday's match at 10-6 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12. The biggest win of the WVU season came on Wednesday when the Mountaineers knocked off TCU and former head coach Jill Kramer in five sets inside the WVU Coliseum. WVU also swept Texas Tech in Lubbock last Saturday.
