AMES, Iowa – Registration is now open for Cyclone Softball Camps' 2018 Winter Program, hosted by head coach Jamie Pinkerton, the Iowa State softball coaching staff, as well as current and former members of the Iowa State softball team. The camps will be held Jan. 13-21 at the Bergstrom Indoor Training Facility.
Cyclone Softball Camps are an excellent opportunity for developing softball players to train with some of the best coaches in the country. Pinkerton, Iowa State's first-year head coach, has 12 years of experience as a Division I head coach, including 350 victories, three NCAA Tournament berths and four conference coach of the year honors. He has also coached with both USA National teams and Junior Olympic teams. Pinkerton came to Iowa State from the University of Montana, where he started the softball program from scratch. He had the Griz in the NCAA Tournament with a 35-24 (15-6 in the league) in just the program's third year of existence.
Pinkerton has also put together a phenomenal coaching staff, featuring assistant coaches Kate Sinnott and Courtney Martinez, volunteer assistant Alicia Herron and director of softball operations Peter Suarez.
Sinnott, a standout collegiate pitcher at Spokane Falls Community College and Eastern Oregon, has a wealth of experience mentoring and developing pitchers. The native of Great Falls, Mont., previously worked with Pinkerton at Iowa State from 2010-13 and was the new ISU head coach's first hire upon his return to Ames.
Martinez, who excels in infield and hitting instruction, joined the Iowa State staff this offseason. The native of Chino Hills, Calif., played four years (2006-09) at Cal State Fullerton, where she helped the Titans to four straight NCAA Regionals and one Super Regional. Martinez came to Iowa State from UNLV, where she was elevated to associate head coach after just one season on staff.
Herron, Iowa State's volunteer assistant, has shown a knack for her work in training and developing softball players at all levels. A First Team All-Big Ten and First Team All-Midwest Region honoree at Ohio State, Herron later worked with Make the Team in Ohio, developing youth players in fundamentals and mechanics in the game of softball. She most recently worked with the University of New Mexico as an assistant coach.
Suarez, who is beginning his second season at Iowa State, was kept on staff by new head coach Jamie Pinkerton, and has been a great asset to the program. Suarez, a Florida State grad, has specialized in infield defense and hitting in his coaching tenure and joined the Cyclone program after working at Stephen F. Austin as an assistant.
There will be seven different camps for grades 7-12, with each specializing in either hitting, pitchers & catchers or defense, as well as a Little Cyclones camp on Jan. 20 for 6th grade and under. Click here for a complete Cyclone Softball Camps schedule and registration information.
