AMES, Iowa – Iowa State student-athletes continue to achieve success in competition and in the classroom with the release of the Federal Graduation Rates (FGR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) today by the NCAA.
Iowa State recorded its highest overall GSR score in school history at 84 percent, tying for fourth in the Big 12 Conference. The Cyclones' single year FGR was at 73 percent (based upon the 2010 cohort), the second-highest total in the league.
Four Iowa State sport teams led the Big 12 with 100 percent four-year GSR totals (Women's Basketball, Women's Golf, Gymnastics and Softball). Twelve of the school's fourteen teams improved or maintained their GSR from last year.
The new GSR data also indicated significant improvements from the Cyclone football and men's basketball teams. The football team set a record with a 77 percent tally, ranking third in the league and a 20 percent increase from 2014. Men's hoops equaled its highest total at 78 percent, a 24 percent increase from 2013.
The GSR for all women's sports was at 94 percent, tying for second highest in the Big 12 Conference. The GSR for student-athletes who exhausted their eligibility at Iowa State University in this cohort graduated at a 100 percent rate.
Each year, the NCAA publicly announces the GSR of all Division I institutions. The data are based on a six-year cohort prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education and the GSR was developed in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflect the mobility among all college students today.
