AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team (3-2, 0-0 Big 12) will look recapture its momentum in the Des Moines area, where it will have a trio of duals this Friday and Sunday.
The Cyclones are coming off of a weekend in Iowa City with a mixed-bag of results. Iowa State was able to sweep Montana in convincing fashion. However, the Cyclones dropped a hard fought match to in-state rival Iowa on Sunday.
The duo of Margarita Timakova and Annabella Bonadonna continued their strong play as they won both of their matches in doubles. They outpaced their opponents from Montana and Iowa by a count of 12 sets to five.
Iowa State will start this weekend off with matches against Omaha (2-2, 0-0 Summit) and Drake (2-1, 0-0 MVC) Friday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines. ISU faces the Mavericks at 11 a.m. and Drake at 4 p.m.
Omaha is led by junior Michelle Lo, who is undefeated this spring season in singles play. Lo is the number one player for the Mavericks and was named the Summit League Player of the Week last week. Omaha hasn't competed for two weeks since downing Doane University, 7-0.
Drake is coming off a weekend where it swept matches against South Dakota and Augustana, both by a score of 4-3. The Bulldogs' singles play is the strong point for the team as they won four of the six singles matches in both of their duals this past weekend.
Sunday will mark the home-opener for the Cyclones this season. Iowa State will welcome Illinois State (3-2) to Life Time Fitness in Urbandale. The Cyclones were 2-4 last year at home, but will look to improve on that mark in order to continue their strong season.
The home match against Illinois State will be on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
