IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Iowa State gymnastics team earned a season-high on floor on their way to earning a 195.375 against the No. 14 Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday. Three Cyclones hit a 9.900 floor routine to earn the season-high 49.300 on the event. Despite leading the Hawkeyes in the first three events, the Cyclones struggle to finish the meet on beam, falling to Iowa 196.725-195.375
"I knew walking into beam that we'd have to be perfect," Head Coach Jay Ronayne admitted. "Iowa's floor is really good, and we only had a slight lead. We knew we had to be perfect and we weren't. We've got some work to do on beam, its been one of our worse events in the last few meets. So we're going to make sure we keep working on that."
Floor Exercise
Three Iowa State gymnasts hit a 9.900 on floor to help the Cyclones to their season-high floor score of 49.300. Juniors Haylee Young, Briana Ledesma, and Kelsey Paz all earned the score and tied for third on the event. The 9.900 marks Paz's career-high on the event. In her second appearance on floor this season, Meaghan Sievers earned a 9.800 to tie with junior Hilary Green and round out the scoring for Iowa State on floor.
"It was exciting to hit my career high on floor," Paz said. "We were very on point on floor, we performed well almost the whole meet, we just weren't able to finish it."

Sievers led the Cyclones on vault for the second meet in a row, tying for first place with a 9.875. Coming in with the next-highest score was Young, who earned a 9.850 to place third at the meet. Two Cyclone gymnasts earned 9.700's to round out the team's vault scores, Johnson and Middelkoop both earning the score to help the team to a 48.975 on vault.
"Vault went great," Ronayne stated. "I was really pleased. We did some really good vault compared to how the season has been progressing. We're doing really well and I think we're right on pace."
Uneven Bars
The Cyclones started out the meet with a strong performance on the uneven bars in the first rotation, tying for their second-highest bars score this season. Green led the team on the event with a 9.850, tying for second at the meet. They were followed closely by Ledesma who recorded a 9.825 at the meet.
