AMES, Iowa – Six members of the Iowa State gymnastics team received National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Scholastic All-America honors for their efforts in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.
For the third-straight year, Kelsey Paz received the honor. A member of ISU's 2018 senior class, Paz maintained a 3.93 GPA in accounting last season. On top of that, her junior gymnastics campaign was the best of her career, as she set new career-high scores in all events, including a 39.275 in the all-around.
Hilary Green and Meaghan Sievers were named Scholastic All-Americans for the second-straight season. Green is pursuing her ISU degree in Diet and Exercise, while Sievers is a Kinesiology major.
First-time Scholastic All-American recipients were 2017 freshmen Laura Burns, Riley Walsh and Emily White. Burns maintained the highest GPA among the freshman class with a 3.76 in Business while also competing in three meets for the Cyclones.
On top of the individual honors, the Cyclones earned the team academic award from the association. In order to eligible for the award, a team must maintain a 3.00 GPA average. To be nominated for the Scholastic All-American award, the gymnasts must earn a 3.50, better as a cumulative GPA, or maintain a 3.50 throughout the academic year.
