FORT WORTH, Texas – Iowa State (10-7, 1-5 Big 12) fell to No. 24 TCU (14-4, 2-4 Big 12) 96-73 Wednesday night at Schollmaier Arena. The Frogs, who led for 39 of the 40 minutes, shot over 60 percent from the field and drained 12 3-pointers en route to the victory.
In defeat, ISU was led by 19 points from Donovan Jackson, and 16 points apiece from Cameron Lard and Lindell Wigginton. Lard just missed out on another double-double, grabbing nine rebounds.
How it Happened
A balanced TCU attack, hitting four 3-pointers and shooting 55 percent from the field, put the visiting Cyclones into a 28-10 hole. Donovan Jackson went on a personal 9-0 run, which included his 100th career 3-pointer to bring the deficit back down to 11. ISU was able to settle into the contest from there, working the Frogs' deficit down to seven at 30-23.
The start of the second half saw the return of Lindell Wigginton, who only played eight first-half minutes due to foul trouble. The Canadian freshman's return helped spark the Iowa State attack, as a long two by Jackson brought the Frogs' advantage down to eight at 54-46.
However, the ISU resistance was broken near the halfway mark of the second, as TCU scored nine in 90 seconds to build up its largest lead at 72-53. While the Cyclone offense improved to shoot 50 percent in the second half, the answers were not there on defense for ISU, as the Horned Frogs hit 64.5 percent of their shots in the final 20 minutes to pull away to the victory.
Players of Note
Donovan Jackson rose the occasion in the first half to bring the Cyclones back into the game early. Jackson went on a solo 9-0 run, which included him becoming the 19th player in ISU history to reach 100 career 3-pointers. Jackson finished the contest with a team-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers.
Cameron Lard just missed out on a double-double, finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds. Lard got is 16 via a 7-of-10 shooting effort from the field.
Lindell Wigginton only had two points in the first half, but finished the game strong, recording 14 second-half points which included four 3-pointers. It was the freshman's third-straight game in double figures.
