URBANDALE, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) finished its home opener with an impressive 7-0 win over the South Dakota Coyotes.
In doubles action, the Cyclones started strong with a 6-3 win by Regina Espindola and Maty Cancini at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot, Ekaterina Repina and Margarita Timakova were victorious over Aria Chemodanova and Anastasia Bondarenko, 5-3. Annabella Bonadonna and Erin Freeman finished off the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win over duo Barbora Kollarova and Habiba Aly, 6-1.
Four of the singles matches went to three sets. At the No. 1 spot, Espindola was able to finish strong in a 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Jana Lazarevic. Cancini, who played at the No. 2 spot, also made out of her match with a win, going 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 against Kollarova. Playing at No. 3, Repina bounced back in her match, finishing 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. At the No. 6 spot, Timakova grabbed an impressive 5-7, 7-6, 10-7 victory over Coyote Nanette Nylund. Freeman clinched a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bondarenko, while Bonadonna finished 6-3, 6-1 against Chemodanova.
