CHICAGO – The Iowa State tennis team (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) were victorious in their first match on the road over Flames of Illinois-Chicago, winning 6-1.
At the No. 1 doubles position, partners Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola defeated Rachel LeComber and Melika Le Blanc, 6-4. Meanwhile, Erin Freeman and Annabella Bonadonna grabbed a 6-0 win over Stefana Seifeit and Viktoria Vosic at the No. 3 doubles position. Ekaterina Repina and Margarita Timakova were unable to come out with a win, falling 6-1 in the No. 2 position to the Flames' Georgie Sanders and Leijla Colic.
In singles action, five Cyclones finished with wins. At the No. 1 position, Cancini defeated Sanders, 6-3, 7-5, while Espindola captured a 6-4, 6-4 win over Colic in the No. 2 spot. Freshman Ekaterina Repina won her No. 3 match, 7-5, 6-0, against Amelia Guevremont. At the No. 5 position, Bonadonna stayed strong and defeated Rachel Le Comber, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Timakova also came out on top after her 6-3, 7-6 (6) match against Miranda Rodriguez at the No. 6 singles position. Freeman, who played at No. 4 in singles play, was unable to bounce back in her match that went into three sets, falling 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
