NORMAL, Illinois – The Iowa State tennis team (3-1, 0-0 Big 12) fell 4-1 in its match against the Redbirds of Illinois State.
Doubles duo Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola fell 6-4 to Veronika Golanova and Jelena Karla Vujicic at the No. 1 position. At the No. 3 spot, Ekaterina Repina and Margarita Timakova lost to Valerija Gercar and Laura Fitzgerald, 7-5.
Junior Erin Freeman found a victory at the No. 4 singles position, winning 6-1, 6-0. At the No. 2 singles position, Ekaterina Repina fell 6-3, 6-2 to Vujicic. Bonadonna and Timakova were also unable to come out with wins, falling 6-4, 6-4, and 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions respectively. Both the No. 1 and No. No. 3 match ups featuring Cancini and Espindola did not finish their matches.
On Thursday, Feb. 8, the Cyclones will travel to Florida to compete in two dual matches. First, they will face Bethune-Cookman at 9 a.m., followed by Embry-Riddle at 2 p.m. ISU will wrap its trip to Florida on Saturday with a match against Stetson.
