LINCOLN, Nebraska – The Iowa State tennis team (6-2, 0-0 Big 12) opened its weekend in Nebraska with a 4-0 win against the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday.
The Cyclones captured two in doubles action, with No. 1 duo Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola defeating Ashley Ishimura and Michaela Henne, 6-4. At the No. 2 spot, partners Erin Freeman and Annabella Bonadonna grabbed a 6-1 over Claire Embree and Celine Massereau, while Ekaterina Repina and Margarita Timakova fell 6-1 to Erin Epperson and Kendrra Lavallee.
In singles play, Repina, who played at the No. 4 spot, defeated her foe, Embree, 6-2, 6-3. Timakova and Bonadonna walked away with wins, playing at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions respectively. Timakova won 6-1, 6-4 against Massereau, and Bonadonna found a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lavallee.
Three matches went unfinished. Cancini faced Ishimura at the No. 1 position, going 6-7, 1-0, unfinished. At the No. 2 spot, Espindola went 3-6, 6-4, unfinished versus Henne, while Freeman went 3-6, 1-5, unfinished against Epperson.
ISU will finish off the weekend tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match against Nebraska, followed by a 2 p.m. match versus the Mavericks of Omaha.
