AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's track and field team will have three entries at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Texas A&M on March 9-10, the NCAA announced Tuesday night. The Cyclone women will be represented by Jhoanmy Luque (long jump, triple jump) and Jasmine Staebler (800-meter run).
Luque has had another outstanding season in the horizontal jumps. The senior completed her second-straight sweep of the long jump and triple jump at the Big 12 Indoor Championships last weekend in Ames. She currently ranks No. 5 in the triple jump and No. 8 in the long jump in the NCAA, recording season-highs of 21-1 1/4 (6.43m) in the long jump and 44-4 (13.51m) in the triple jump this past weekend. The Venezuelan is an eight-time All-American, with three First Team honors in that collection.
Staebler returns to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 800 for the second-straight season. The junior goes into the competition as the No. 9 seed via her 2:03.59 that she ran at the Razorback Invite in January. Staebler claimed the silver medal in the 800 for the second-straight season at the Big 12 Indoor Championships last weekend. She also claimed her first conference crown running the anchor leg for ISU's distance medley relay team, edging out Oklahoma State with a big kick on the front stretch. At last season's NCAA Indoor Championships, Staebler finished sixth in the 800 to earn First Team All-America honors.
All competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships will be streamed live on ESPN3. ESPN2 and ESPNU will air replays at a later date.
