WACO, Texas – Iowa State (12-10, 3-7 Big 12) fell 81-67 at Baylor (13-10, 3-7 Big 12) on Saturday night. The Cyclones were undone by a 15-0 Bear run early in the second half, and shot just 34.2 percent (13-of-38) in the second half.
How It Happened
Iowa State used an 8-0 run midway through the first quarter to climb out of a 21-13 Baylor lead, using a thunderous Cameron Lard dunk sandwiched between 3-pointers from Lindell Wigginton and Zoran Talley to erase the BU advantage in less than a minute.
The Cyclones held a 32-30 lead following a back-and-forth finish to the first half. Wigginton led the way with 14 points and four assists while connecting on a pair of attempts from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes.
Baylor took control following the intermission, reeling off a 15-0 run in the early going to build its largest lead of the game at 51-38 with 14:16 to play. The Bears made six consecutive field goal attempts during the run, and were also sent to the free throw line seven times in the first seven minutes of the half.
The Cyclones fought back, narrowing the deficit to single digits on multiple occasions, but were never able to get the Bear lead under eight points. While Iowa State was unable to get its offense in rhythm, Baylor shot a blistering 62.1 percent from the field in the second half to pull away.
