Paz Named Big 12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State gymnast Kelsey Paz was named the 2018 Big 12 Gymnastics Scholar Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Thursday. An Iowa State has won the Big 12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year five of the six years since the award's inception in 2013.

Paz, an accounting major, has had tremendous success in the classroom, being named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester while at Iowa State. During her time as a Cyclone, she has also been a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member.

Paz found her way into to the all-around lineup as her career went on, competing for Iowa State in every meet during her four years. During her senior campaign, Paz earned a new career high on bars during Senior Night against Iowa and Missouri. She also tied her beam and all-around scores this season.

Paz, a team captain, ended her senior season by helping the Cyclones qualify for NCAA Regionals for the second-straight year. At the Regional, Iowa State placed fifth scoring a 195.925.
