Cyclones Fall To No. 19 Baylor On Senior Day

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (22-28, 3-12 Big 12) fell 9-0 in its series finale against No. 19 Baylor (33-14, 10-6 Big 12) on Sunday at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Sunday's game marked senior day for 2018 Cyclone seniors Nychole Antillon, Kaila Konz and Brianna Weilbacher.

The Lady Bears were on the attack offensively from the get-go, with the first four BU batters reaching base safely to open the game. Three-hole hitter Shelby Friudenberg drove in the first runs of the game with a two-RBI single to right center, scoring Jessie Scroggins and Kyla Walker. The Cyclones got out of the inning with no further damage done, but were unable to recover.
Four more Baylor runs came across home plate in the top of the second. Taylor Ellis notched an RBI single to left field, followed by a bases-loaded walk for Friudenberg, extending the BU lead to 4-0. Goose McGlaun notched an RBI on a sacrifice fly, and an additional run was plated on a throwing error by the Cyclones.
Baylor kept its foot on the gas, scoring three more runs in the top of the third, extending its lead to 9-0. Freshman pitcher Julie Lewis entered the circle for the Cyclones with two outs in the third inning and was a bright spot for ISU. Lewis pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing no runs on just two hits with a strikeout.
Iowa State mounted its best offensive threat in the bottom of the third inning, as Kaila Konz and Skyler Ramos notched back-to-back base hits with one out, but Iowa State was unable to take advantage.
Baylor pitcher Gia Rodoni picked up the victory, going 5.0 innings while giving up no runs on two hits.
On Deck
Iowa State will prepare for its final series of the regular season, as the Cyclones travel to Lawrence to take on Kansas. Game one is set for Friday at 5 p.m.
