In defeat, ISU was led by 10 kills from Annie Hatch, while Avery Rhodes had nine kills at .300 hitting. Michal Schuler led the back-row with 15 digs, while Izzy Enna had 14. Candelaria Herrera led the block with six block assists. The Cyclone defense held Baylor to .214 hitting, the Bears' lowest hitting output of 2019.
Texas Tech (12-6, 2-2 Big 12) comes into Saturday's match well-rested, as they had a bye in the mid-week. The Red Raiders fell to TCU in five sets in Lubbock on Sunday afternoon. TTU struggled to get through a tough TCU block, which finished with 11 blocks. Senior outside hitter Emily Hill ranks second in the Big 12 with 4.55 kills per set on the year, but was held to only 10 against the Horned Frogs.
Texas Tech has a strong offense, as TTU hits .246 as a team. Along with Hill, the Tech offense is led by right side Brooke Kanas, who is getting her 2.50 kills per set at .273 hitting. The Red Raider middles are also a threat in Allison White (1.61 kps, .289 hit%) and Karrington Jones (1.76 kps, .321 hit%). TTU has also been boosted by the return of setter Alex Kirby, who missed 12 matches prior to her return at Kansas State on Oct. 2.
The teams split the season series in 2018, protecting their respective home courts. Tech's four-set win in Lubbock was notable as it was its first win over ISU since 2006, snapping a 23-match win streak for the Cyclones in the series. Texas Tech's last win in Ames came in 2004, the year before Christy Johnson-Lynch took over as Iowa State head coach.
