AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team begins the second half of Big 12 play this week with a match at TCU on Wednesday night. First serve between the Cyclones and Horned Frogs will be at 7 p.m. from the University Recreation Center in Fort Worth.
Iowa State will look to get off to a positive start to the second half of the Big 12 campaign just two weeks after defeating TCU 3-0 in Ames. However, the Horned Frogs come in refreshed off a bye and welcoming the return of 2018 All-Big 12 honoree élan McCall to the lineup.
Wednesday night's match-up will be televised on the Fox Sports Networks. The following channels have been confirmed to be showing the match: Fox Sports Southeast, Fox Sports Midwest and Fox Sports Southwest. To find out whether your local FSN affiliate is showing the match, please contact your cable or satellite provider. The match will also be streamed on Fox Sports Go, here. Live stats will be provided by TCU, here.
Iowa State closed out the first half of Big 12 play with a 3-0 sweep of Kansas State on Saturday night at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones were led by 11 kills at .500 hitting from Candelaria Herrera, while Annie Hatch recorded 12 kills. Piper Mauck notched eight kills, the most by a Cyclone setter since Alison Landwehr had 10 vs. Kentucky in 2010. Mauck also had a double-double of 28 assists and 10 digs in the win. Michal Schuler led the back-row with four aces and 15 digs.
TCU is 7-11 on the season and 2-6 in Big 12 play on the year. The Frogs come into the match refreshed, having the idle weekend in the Big 12 after defeating West Virginia 3-0 last Thursday. The Frogs were led by 12 kills from Audrey Nalls and 11 from Ashley Waggle. élan McCall, a 2018 All-Big 12 honoree, played her second match of the season in the front row and notched nine kills.
Iowa State and TCU's first meeting of the season came on Oct. 16 in Ames, with Iowa State running out 3-0 winners. The Cyclones were led by 10 kills at .667 hitting from Caldelaria Herrera, while Avery Rhodes had seven blocks to lead ISU, with the Cyclones finishing the match with 9.0 total blocks.
This will be the 16th all-time meeting between the two schools, with the Cyclones leading the series 12-3. ISU is 5-2 all-time in Fort Worth, but TCU won last season's meeting over a short-handed Iowa State squad 3-1. Four of Iowa State's five wins in Fort Worth have been by way of sweep.
