Iowa State was unable to put away a 2-0 lead, as it fell to Kansas 3-2 Wednesday night in Lawrence. The Cyclones also had a 12-9 lead in the fifth set before the Jayhawks rattled off the final six points of the fifth to take the match. The Cyclones were without the services of right side Eleanor Holthaus, who sustained an injury in practice the night before the match. In defeat, ISU was led by Candelaria Herrera, who had 18 kills, six blocks and two aces.
The Longhorns are 20-3 overall and are tied with Baylor atop the Big 12 with a 14-1 league record. A win for Texas would clinch them at least a share of the Big 12 regular season title, an outright title depending on Baylor's result against TCU on Saturday.
UT is led by defending Big 12 Player of the Year Micaya White, who is averaging 4.00 kills per set at .303 hitting. Since her return to play during the Big 12 season, middle blocker Brionne Butler has been a force, leading the Big 12 with her .400 hitting percentage and 1.61 blocks per set.
This will be the 50th meeting between the two teams, UT leading the all-time series 44-5. Texas has won five-straight meetings, including a 3-1 decision on Sept. 25 in Austin. In that match, ISU was without Piper Mauck and Michal Schuler, both of whom sustained concussions the week before.
