AMES, Iowa - Iowa State (23-17, 1-7 Big 12) dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 14 Oklahoma State (31-11, 9-2 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The Cyclones fell by 12-3 run-rule in game one, and were upended 6-3 in game two.
No. 14 Oklahoma State 12, Iowa State 3
The Cyclones took an early lead in game one, as Talyn Lewis got the offense going with the first hit of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Kasey Simpson followed with a sac bunt to move Lewis to second. Logan Schaben then came up to bat and hit an RBI triple, scoring Lewis to give Iowa State a 1-0 lead.
OSU came back with two base hits to the warning track and the Cowgirls tied the game up 1-1 in the top of the third. OSU then got a solo homerun off the bat of Michaela Richbourg in the top of the fourth that put Oklahoma State ahead, 2-1.
The Cowgirls took control in the fifth inning, scoring 10 runs on eight hits, including a Richbourg grand slam.
The Cyclones refused to go away quietly despite the deficit. Jaclyn Chariz was brought in as a pinch-hitter and reached first on a single to right field. Kaylee Bosworth then came up and crushed a homerun to center field, putting a dent in the deficit to make it 12-3.
That would be it for the Cyclones in the fifth, however, as Oklahoma State finished out the run-rule victory in five innings.
Starting pitcher Emma Hylen recorded three strikeouts on the game in 4.0 innings of action. Reliever Tatum Ksiazek gave up two hits and had one strikeout in her one inning pitched.
No. 14 Oklahoma State 6, Iowa State 3
The Cyclones had an improved effort in game two of the day, out-hitting the potent Cowgirl offense 10-8, but were unable to come away with a win. Oklahoma State picked up right where they left off at the end of game one, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Madi Sue Montgomery and Richbourg both hit home runs in the first frame to give OSU an early advantage.
The lead was extended when Samantha Show drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the second, putting OSU ahead 4-0.
Kaylee Bosworth got the Cyclones on the board in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to center field, scoring Hannah Carter. However, Oklahoma State had two more runs cross home plate in the sixth, aided by a Cyclone error.
Mikayla Ramos picked up an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, followed by a run-scoring base hit up the middle for Talyn Lewis in the seventh. However, that would be the final run of the game, as Oklahoma State won, 6-3.
