Iowa State Announces February Student-Athletes of the Month

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State Office of Student-Athlete Development announced that four Cyclone student-athletes were honored for their hard work and dedication in the classroom during the month of February. Iowa State's Student-Athletes of the Month are Eric Fogltanz (track & field), Jatairis Grant (football), Bailey Righi (track & field) and Margarita Timakova (tennis).
Eric Fogltanz – Senior (Track & Field)
Hometown:Â Manitowoc, Wis.
Major:Â Graphic Design
Fogltanz had a strong indoor season, earning First Team All-America honors running the 400m leg for Iowa State's fifth-place Distance Medley Relay team at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He also added a third-place finish in the 600-yard run at the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
Jatairis Grant – Junior (Football)
Hometown:Â Akron, Ohio
Major:Â Child, Adult and Family Services
Jatairis Grant emerged during his redshirt sophomore season, appearing in all 13 games in 2018. The native of Akron, Ohio, recorded 15 tackles, including seven solo stops on the season. He had a career-high three tackles vs. Oklahoma State and Drake.
Bailey Righi – Junior (Track & Field)
Hometown:Â Blue Springs, Mo.
Major:Â Software Engineering
Righi has competed in three meets this outdoor season for the Cyclones throwing the javelin. She won the Arkansas Spring Invitational to open the season, and posted a personal best throw of 137-4 at the Sun Angel Classic at the start of the month. Righi ranks eighth in the Big 12 in the women's javelin in 2019.
Margarita Timakova – Junior (Tennis)
Hometown:Â Togliatti, Russia
Major:Â Art & Design
Margarita Timakova had an excellent close to her junior campaign with the Iowa State tennis program. She was critical in Iowa State clinching the doubles point vs. No. 6 Texas on April 12, and then helped clinch the first victory over Baylor in program history, 4-3, on April 14.
Student-athlete development staff members who oversee each sport submit nominations, and the staff votes on the monthly winner.
