Men's Cross Country Capsule
- The Iowa State men's team got off to a great start to the season two weeks ago at the Bob Timmons Classic. The Cyclones took first place at the event, tallying 20 team points, behind five finishes in the top-nine.
- ISU was led by newcomer Wesley Kiptoo. The Marakwet, Kenya, native posted a 6k time of 18:06.0 to finish in first individually. The Big 12 Conference named Kiptoo its Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week following his debut performance.
- Festus Lagat (second), Milo Greder (third), Thomas Pollard (sixth) and Nehemia Too (ninth) rounded out the Cyclone scorers to push Iowa State to a 20-point victory over second-place Kansas State.
- Martin Smith enters his eighth season at the helm of the ISU track and field and cross country units. Smith is coming off of his most successful cross country season at Iowa State. In 2019, Iowa State finished fourth at the NCAA Championships, a race that was highlighted by individual NCAA Champion, Edwin Kurgat. The Cyclones also captured their third-consecutive Big 12 title in 2019.
- Kurgat's departure leaves a large hole at the top of the ISU lineup, but the Cyclones return a plethora of veteran talent. The Cyclone lineup will be bolstered by the likes of All-Big 12 performers Thomas Pollard, Mitchell Day, Chad Johnson and Milo Greder, as well as a handful of talented newcomers.
- ISU will be looking to capture its fourth consecutive Big 12 crown in 2020.
Women's Cross Country Capsule
- In the 2020 season-opener, the Cyclones posted a near-perfect score (16 points) at the Bob Timmons Classic.
- The Cyclones claimed the top-four individual spots and eight total in the top-nine.
- ISU was led by Big 12 champ, Cailie Logue who posted a 17:08.4 5k time to finish 42 seconds clear of the field. It was Logue's seventh career individual victory, which netter her USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors and Big 12 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
- Amy Rudolph is in her third year as the leader of the Iowa State women's cross country team. After winning the Big 12 and NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in her first year, in 2019 she featured a youthful roster that improved with every race during last year's season.
- Rudolph's squad features a strong underclassmen-platoon that is anchored by seniors Cailie Logue and Larkin Chapman.
- Last season, Logue successfully defended her Big 12 and NCAA Midwest Regional crowns, while earning her first All-America finish at the NCAA Championships, taking 15th individually in Terre Haute.
- The Cyclones finished fourth at last year's conference championship, but in 2020 ISU will be looking to capture its eighth Big 12 title in the last 10 years.
