A theme throughout the match which started in the first set was the tough serving of Baylor DS Campbell Bowden. Iowa State had an 8-7 lead off back-to-back Eleanor Holthaus kills, but Bowden came in and served up a 5-0 run to put the visitors ahead 12-8. The BU offense hit over .400 for the first half of the frame, but Iowa State was able to battle back, with Jenna Brandt capping a 4-0 run with an ace to get back within one at 18-17. However, it was Bowden again who came in and stifled the Cyclones, putting up a quick 3-0 run to put the set out of ISU's reach. Baylor took the first on a Kara McGhee kill at 25-20.
Set Two: Baylor 25 Iowa State 23
Bowden again frustrated the Cyclones, as she put up a pair of 3-0 runs in the second to help Baylor lead. However, the home side was able to continue to battle in the set, staying within one at 19-18 on Alexis Engelbrecht's first career kill. Baylor was able to string together some points to get to set point at 24-20, but the Cyclones fought off a trio of set points, led by a pair of Brooke Andersen kills. However, the Bears were able to escape with set two, despite hitting just .154 for the frame, when defending National Player of the Year Yossiana Pressley killed at 25-23.
Set Three: Baylor 25 Iowa State 16
Baylor led for the entirety of the third frame, using a 5-1 run to build up a 9-4 advantage. After struggling through much of the first two sets, the Bears stepped up the attack with a .417 hitting effort in the final frame. Bowden had another 3-0 run in her serve to continue to put the set out of ISU's reach at 21-12. Holthaus battled valiantly for the Cyclones, recording five kills at .571 hitting in the final frame.
