AMES, Iowa – After a career as one of Iowa State's top gymnast, Haylee Young is joining the Cyclone gymnastics coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Jay Ronayne announced Wednesday. Young was in the gym with the Cyclones last season as a volunteer assistant.
"I am overjoyed that Haylee has decided to bring her talents back to Iowa State," Ronayne said. "Her passion, knowledge and drive has always been an asset to our team. We are looking forward to her bringing that to our program to help take us to the next level."
"It means everything to be back," Young said. "My time at Iowa State was the time of my life, and I bleed Cardinal & Gold. To be able to help other student-athletes feel the same way and help them reach their potential is my dream job. I cannot wait to help them achieve their goals."
Young competed for the Cyclones from 2015-18, having a successful career in Cardinal & Gold. She qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2017 and collecting a pair of Big 12 titles during her student-athlete career.
Young began her career as a Cyclone in 2015 out of West Des Moines, Iowa. She helped the Cyclones post their highest floor exercise score of 49.450 since 2006 by posting a 9.925 as the anchor against Iowa and Missouri during the meet on March 9, 2018. The Cyclones also earned their highest team score since 2007 with a score of 196.700 with Young competing in the all-around in that same tri-meet.
During her freshman campaign, she earned the Big 12 All-Around Championship. In her junior year, she qualified for the NCAA Championship in the individual all-around, then closing out her career with her second Big 12 Championship by clinching the floor title in 2018. Young graduated from Iowa State in 2018 with her Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations.
