AMES, Iowa - No. 13 Iowa State has a big task ahead on Thursday and Friday, with the Cyclones heading to Austin to take on No. 1 and undefeated Texas. Both matches will start at 7 p.m. inside the Erwin Center, Texas volleyball's temporary home for 2020.
Both matches will be televised live on Longhorn Network, with Tyler Denning and Salima Rockwell on the call. LHN subscribers can also stream the match via WatchESPN. Live stats for both matches will be provided by Texas, here.
Iowa State hosted Texas Tech at Hilton Coliseum and finished with a 1-1 split, winning on Friday 3-1 before falling on Saturday 3-2. The Cyclones got an outstanding weekend from junior right side Eleanor Holthaus, who posted a pair of double-doubles and got her 3.56 kills per set at .500 hitting across the two matches. The ISU block was also strong, averaging 2.72 blocks per set, including 16.5 total blocks on Saturday against the Red Raiders. Candelaria Herrera led the way, recording 1.33 blocks per set on the weekend.
Texas, No. 1 in the AVCA Fall Top 15, has only dropped one set so far en route to its 4-0 mark, picking up a pair of wins at Oklahoma and against Kansas so far. The Horns are hitting .336 as a team on the season, led by 5.31 kills per set from two-time Big 12 Player of the Week Logan Eggleston, who is getting her kills at .327 hitting. Sophomore right side Skylar Fields is averaging 3.85 kills per set at .376 hitting. UT is holding opponenets to .134 hitting, posting 2.96 blocks per set with Brionne Butler leading the way with 1.62 blocks per set.
Texas leads the all-time series 45-5 and is a perfect 26-0 against the Cyclones in Austin all-time. This will be the first time Iowa State and Texas have played in the Erwin Center, UT's regular men's and women's basketball home. Last season, the Longhorns took both matches in four sets.
