The Cyclones went a disappointing 0-2 at West Virginia last weekend, dropping the Friday contest in five sets before getting swept on Saturday. The Cyclone offense struggled again, hitting just .123 across the weekend. In the back row, Izzy Enna had a strong weekend, becoming the 17th student-athlete in Iowa State history to reach 1,000 career digs on Saturday. Her 1,007 digs for her career currently sees her in 15th in program history.
Kansas comes into this weekend matching Iowa State with a 2-8 record in 2020. The Jayhawks hosted in-state foe Kansas State in their last matches on Oct. 29-30, splitting the weekend with a 3-1 win on Thursday evening before falling in five sets in the Friday match. The win over K-State was the 400th of KU head coach Ray Bechard's time in Lawrence. Kansas is led by Jenny Moser's 3.35 kills per set, while also getting 2.40 kills per set from Ayah Elnady. The Jayhawks have some big middle blockers for ISU to go up against, with freshman Caroline Crawford averaging 1.00 blocks per set and Rachel Langs offering experience out of the M2 spot.
Kansas is Iowa State's most frequent opponent played in program history, with this weekend marking the 97th and 98th all-time meeting between the two teams. The two teams defended their own home courts last season, with ISU sweeping the Jayhawks in Ames, while KU came from behind the day before Thanksgiving to stun the Cyclones in five in Lawrence. Iowa State does have the edge in recent times in the friendly confines, with the Cyclones having won the last three matches taking place at Hilton Coliseum. All-time, ISU is 30-11 vs. Kansas in Ames.
