Converse Makes Top 16 For AAI Award

AMES, Iowa – Sydney Converse is among the top-16 finalists for the prestigious AAI Award, honoring the most outstanding collegiate senior female gymnast in the country. This is the first year that AAI has released the final 16 candidates.

This year's AAI Award started with a pool of 33 gymnasts from across the country. The next stage will be released later this season with six finalists that will be invited to Fort Worth, Texas for the announcement of the recipient at the 2020 NCAA Gymnastics Championships.

Sydney Converse has been a strong leader during her redshirt-senior campaign. She has competed on three events in all seven meets thus far, leading off vault and anchoring the beam squad. Converse has matched the team-high 9.875 mark on beam four times this season, and has scored below 9.825 just once on the apparatus through seven meets. She also has a career-high 9.900 floor score under her belt this season after she had not competed a floor routine since 2016.

Converse will continue to prove her case as Iowa State meets the No. 19 Southern Utah Thunderbirds in Cedar City, Utah on Friday. The meet will begin at 8 p.m. Central Time.
