February Student-Athletes Of The Month Announced

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State Office of Student-Athlete Development announced that four Cyclone student-athletes have been honored for their hard work and dedication in the classroom during the month of February. Iowa State's Student-Athletes of the Month are Corey Cabanban (wrestling) Janessa Jasso (softball), Dan Sichterman (football) and Rachel Vander Hart (soccer).
Corey Cabanban – Redshirt Freshman (Wrestling)
Hometown:Â Aiea, Hawaii
Major:Â Hospitality Management
Corey Cabanban went 15-10 during his 2019-20 season. The hospitality management major made his Iowa State dual debut in Hilton Coliseum this season vs. Big 12 foe West Virginia. His 9-5 decision over Joey Thomas helped the Cyclones to a 34-6 win over the Mountaineers.
Janessa Jasso – Freshman (Softball)
Hometown:Â Dos Palos, Calif.
Major:Â Elementary Education
Janessa Jasso's freshman campaign was off to a promising start before the NCAA softball season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jasso racked up a staff-best 4-2 record in the circle for the Cyclones in 2020 with 34 strikeouts in 42.1 innings of work. She rang up a season-high eight strikeouts vs. Memphis in a 4-2 victory in the Paradise Classic championship game.
Dan Sichterman – Redshirt Junior (Football)
Hometown:Â Cincinnati, Ohio
Major:Â Supply Chain Management
Dan Sichterman, who is majoring in supply chain management, is being recognized for his hard work and commitment in the classroom. Sichterman, who hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, completed his third campaign in Matt Campbell's Iowa State football program, helping the Cyclones to a 7-6 season and a spot in the 2019 Camping World Bowl.
Rachel Vander Hart – Freshman (Soccer)
Hometown:Â Urbandale, Iowa
Major:Â Kinesiology and Health
Rachel Vander Hart's work as a kinesiology and health major earned her a student-athlete of the month honor in just her second semester on campus at Iowa State. Vander Hart is a goalkeeper with the Cyclone soccer program.
Student-athlete development staff members who oversee each sport submit nominations, and the staff votes on the monthly winner.
