Cyclones Have Eight Academic All-Big 12 Honorees

AMES, Iowa – The Big 12 Conference announced the 2020 Gymnastics Academic All-Big 12 teams on Thursday morning, which included eight Cyclone gymnasts. Six of the eight were nominated to the first team.
The Cyclone nominees include Kelsey Boychuk (Open Option), Laura Burns (Marketing), Sydney Converse (Marketing), Madelyn Langkamp (Kinesiology), Ana Palacios (Genetics) and Natalia Ros Vaquer (Hospitality Management). The second-team nominees are Makayla Maxwell (Kinesiology) and Phoebe Turner (Open Option).
First-team recipients received a GPA of 3.20 or better, while the second team was comprised of student-athletes with a GPA between 3.00 and 3.19. All recipients must have competed in 20 percent of scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers in their first year of academic residence are not eligible.
Iowa State's eight Academic All-Big 12 recipients were up from five in 2019. The eight honorees matched 2018's total. Prior to 2018, the Cyclones had not placed eight or more on the Academic All-Big 12 teams since 2009.
