Cyclones Beat South Dakota In Season Opener, 6-1

URBANDALE, Iowa – Iowa State rolled to a convincing 6-1 win over South Dakota Friday evening in its season opener at Life Time Fitness.
The Cyclones clinched the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots and earned a sweep with another win at No. 3. At No. 1 doubles, in her first collegiate match Miska Kadleckova teamed up with Thasaporn Naklo in the top slot to defeat Jana Lazarevic and Anna Marija Bukina, 6-2.
Sofia Cabezas then won her collegiate debut alongside Christin Hsieh, beating Natka Kmoskova and Habiba Aly, 6-4. Maty Cancini and Ting-Pei Chang earned a hard-fought 7-6 win against Berta Girbau and Yulia Almiron Solano to kick off the season.
Naklo kicked off singles play by rolling easily to a 6-0, 6-1 win against Lazarevic to give the Cyclones a 2-0 advantage. Kadleckova kept the momentum in favor of the Cyclones with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Kmoskova, while Cabezas also improved to 2-0 on the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Almiron Solano, clinching the match for ISU.
Kezuka earned her first win of the spring slate with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Bukina. Chang also won in singles action, beating Girbau, 6-0, 7-6.
Iowa State returns to the courts Sunday to face Marquette at 11 a.m. at Life Time Fitness.
