Cyclones Beat Marquette, 7-0

URBANDALE, Iowa – Iowa State cruised a 7-0 win against Marquette Sunday afternoon at Life Time Fitness to move to 2-0 this season. Marquette falls to 0-1 after dropping its season opener.

The Cyclones took the early 1-0 lead with a clean sweep in doubles play. Ellie Murphy stepped in for Maty Cancini at No. 3 doubles alongside Ting-Pei Chang and the Cyclone pair won 6-4, improving ISU to 6-0 in doubles play this spring.

The Cyclones wasted no time clinching the match with three quick wins in singles play. Thasaporn Naklo and Chie Kezuka dominated their opponents 6-0, 6-0, while Sofia Cabezas won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Cancini returned to the lineup for singles action and earned a 6-0, 6-4 win at the No. 2 slot.

Miska Kadleckova and Christin Hsieh also captured wins in singles action.

Iowa State returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Colorado at 11 a.m. and North Dakota at 4 p.m.
