ROUND ROCK, Texas – After a scoreless 110 minutes of play in the Big 12 Soccer Championship Quarterfinals, eighth-ranked TCU advanced to the semifinals after penalty kicks against Iowa State Sunday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
Iowa State ends the season 5-11-1, while TCU improved to 15-2-2. It was just the second time this year that the Horned Frogs have been held without a goal, as they fell 1-0 to ninth-ranked Pepperdine on Sept. 16. It was the third time in school history that the Cyclones went to penalty kicks at the Big 12 Championship.
Both teams missed their first penalty kick attempt before Sydney Thomas put Iowa State up 1-0 on her shot. With the makes even at 1-1, Magdalena Keck made her attempt to put ISU up 2-1. TCU again answered to even the attempts before both teams missed on the fourth attempt, with Jordan Silkowitz coming up with a big save. Following a Cyclone miss on the final attempt, Brandi Peterson scored for the Horned Frogs for the 3-2 advantage.
Kenady Adams, Clara Thimstrand and Mira Emma each had a shot for the Cyclones, with Emma's coming on goal. TCU had a 19-3 advantage in shots, including 8-1 in the two overtime periods. The Horned Frogs had a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal. Silkowitz recorded five saves in the net, as she finished the season 3-9-1. Taylor Bee, McKenna Schultz, Thimstrand and Silkowitz played all 110 minutes for the Cyclones.
